Rita J Hudelson, 72, of Lafayette formally of Flora, died Thursday April 6, 2023 at IU Arnett Health in Lafayette. Rita was born to the late Dale and Elizabeth Ayres Eller on November 17, 1950 in Logansport. She married Jerry Hudelson on August 5, 1978, in Lafayette and he preceded her on October 5, 2011. Rita and Jerry at one time owned The Checkerboard in Lafayette. Rita also was a beautician and worked in the bakery at Payless in Lafayette. She was a graduate of Carroll High School in 1969, attended Wrights Beauty School in Kokomo and was a member of Delta Theta Chi. Rita was know as a kind, straight forward family lady. She is survived by her son: Bret Hudelson of Lafayette. Three sisters: Shirley Chodorowski of Davenport, FL, Janet (Mark) Kingen of Pandora, OH and Susan (Greg) Denny of Flora. Two granddaughters: Zoee Hudelson and Emma Nehrig. Two nieces and six nephews. Her dog: Sadee.
Rita’s Family invite friends to visit Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel, 204 S. Center St, Flora, IN 46929 from 4:00pm until a Celebration of Rita’s Life at 7:00pm.
Memorials may be given in Rita’ memory to donor’s charity of choice.

April 9, 2023 8:11 am ·Rita was one of us…the 8 grandchildren of Basil and Faye Ayres. It was a riot when we were all together! Especially and Christmas and other holidays, the joy and love of family was wonderful. And there were lots and lots of family time at the Ayres cabin on Lake Freeman. Rita was a central part of that family, and the first of us cousins to pass on. My love and prayers to Brett and all her immediate family.

We are so sorry for the loss of Rita. We lost touch the past few years but we have thought of her often. We will remember all the good times we enjoyed with her & Jerry. We are unable to be at the celebration of her life this evening, but please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
