Richard D. “Dick” Porter, 93, of Bringhurst, received his call to his heavenly home Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at St Elizabeth Assisted Living in Delphi. Dick was born on July 23, 1931, in Bringhurst, IN to the late Dennis and Florence Clawson Porter. Dick married Phyllis Wilson Draper on June 29, 1974, in Bringhurst and they just celebrated their 50-year anniversary. Dick farmed in Carroll County throughout his life, retired from Alcoa, read meters for REMC and custom cleaned coop chicken houses Later in life, Dick worked at his two daughter’s business Awesome Events as an employee. Dick was a 1949 graduate of Cutler High School and served our country in the US Army Reserves. He was a longtime member of the Bringhurst Community Church where he enjoyed playing dart ball in the church league and was a fan of Purdue University basketball. Surviving is his wife, Phyllis Porter. Three daughters from his first marriage to Mona Jordan Downhour: Susan Craig of Flora, Denise (Mark) Good of Flora and Joy (Mark) DePoy of Milan, IN. Two stepdaughters: Diana Swartz of Arizona and Brenda (Chet) Bleile of Goshen, IN. Stepson: Dennis (Janet) Draper of Flora. Ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
The Porter Family invite friends to visit Friday, September 13, 2024, at Bringhurst Community Church from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Celebration of Richard “Dick” Porter’s Life will start at 1:00pm. Pastor Brad Burton will officiate. Burial to follow at Zion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given in Richard’s memory to the Bringhurst Community Church or the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, envelopes will be available at the church.
