Jimmie D. Allen, 84, of Flora, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 13th. Jimmie was born to the late Dorval A. and Ruby Wilson Allen, October 16, 1939, in Cutler, Indiana. On May 29, 1959, Jimmie married the love of his life, Ruthann McCarty, in Cutler and she survives. He owned Allen Auto & Truck Service on the corner of State Road 75 and 18 was in the Allen Family since 1966. Jimmie’s dad, Dorval, had the business from 1966 to his death in 1980. Jimmie and Ruthann took over the business in 1980 until they retired in 2016. Jimmie and Ruthann enjoyed a well-deserved vacation after the selling of the station. Since retirement the Allen Family has enjoyed spending time at home and family vacations.

In Jimmie’s younger years he was a milkman and worked for Yeager Sullivan as a truck driver hauling feed. During his time as owner of Allen Auto & Truck Svc when the 1991 ice storm hit this area. Allen Auto & Truck Svc was the only gas station open and serving customers. Jimmie can be seen in a documentary on YouTube: “Flora Indiana 1991 Ice Storm Part 2”. He attended Flora High School and was a member of the Bringhurst Community Church. He was an avid coon hunter in his earlier years, played on the Bringhurst Dart League and enjoyed playing cards and games with Ruthann and family. Jimmie was proud to call Carroll County home. The family remembers coming home from time away and Dad making a trip through town to make sure nothing was going on or if there were any changes. Jimmie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruthann. Three daughters: Pamela (Paul) Lewis of Colfax, IN, Janet (Pat) Baker of Rockfield, IN and Theresa Roberts (companion Kenny Randle) of Flora. His six grandchildren: Scott (Erica) Baker, Julie Baker, Graham (Skye) Lewis, Victoria (Dylan) Wilson, Breann (Anthony) Hilpert and Kaitlyn Morrow. His six great-grandchildren. Three sisters: Sandra (Mike) Traylor of Washington, IN., Patricia (Ed) Hamilton of Rossville and Kathy Flora of Flora. Two brothers: Richard Allen of Logansport and Jerry (Tammy) Allen of Flora. Jim Will definitely be missed by many. I used to go in a lot just to give him crap and he would give it right back. Several times I would happen to be in the station just chatting with him wile he was busy so I would jump in and help him with a tire or whatever it was he was doing at the time. I would never take anything from him in return. Was just fun to help him out.

My condolences to the family. I
appreciated how Mr. Allen kept care of my Mom’s (Zula) car when Daddy couldn’t. Mr. Allen would pump Mom’s gas at self service prices. I always enjoyed chatting with his wife, daughter, and Mr. Allen. They had a cute poodle in the office when they were both there. I know the people of Flora miss their shop and station.
    Sincerely,
    Debbie

So sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. Rhonda and I are thinking of your family. Moving to Flora int he early 90’s and knowing no one, Mr.. Allen became my go to for help with my vehicles and just learning about Flora. He really cared about the person as much as fixing and your car.
