Glen Clingenpeel Jr passed away at the age of 82 on June 14th at 2:58 PM surrounded by his family at the Saint Elizabeth Health Center in Delphi Indiana following a brief battle with cancer.
Glen was born May 11, 1941, to Glen Sr and Esther Justice Clingenpeel. He graduated from Flora High School in 1960 where he was involved in basketball, baseball and track. He was awarded the Kenneth V. Beckner Medal for basketball for the 1959-1960 year. After graduation, Glen enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard until he honorable discharge on July 31, 1969.
He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Allen of Cutler at the Bringhurst Methodist Church on May 24, 1963.
Through the years, Glen worked for Becks Furniture of Flora, Essex of Flora and finally Frito Lay in Frankfort where he retired after 18 years of service.
Glen helped coach the Flora Little League Dodgers for many years and was a volunteer firefighter for the Flora Fire Department. He loved making things in his shop, repairing and refurnishing antique furniture. After retirement, you could normally find him outside working on their house, landscaping or just tinkering. He was a big fan of North Carolina Tarheels basketball. He was a member for the Living Faith Church of Flora where he enjoyed many years working for the fair tent, and fish fry, where he enjoyed all the wonderful food. Glen loved attending his grandkids activities and hearing about their day-to-day life. He loved talking to people and there was not a person he did not enjoy having a laugh with them. He loved his dogs Barney and Odie, but his first love was his family.
Surviving with his wife of 60 years are three children, Bryan (Jennifer) Clingenpeel of Camden, Tim (Theresa) Clingenpeel of Berne and Tracie (Ryan) Swayze of Camden and five grandchildren. Miranda Clingenpeel of Delphi, Treva and Travis Clingenpeel of Berne and Danielle and Kyle Swayze of Camden and sister-in-law Peg Clingenpeel of Tennessee. Glen is preceeded in death by his parents, a brother Roger and half sister Creta Hollis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Flora Little League program in Glen’s honor.
The Clingenpeel Family invite friends to visit Monday, June 19, 2023, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. A celebration of Glen’s Life will begin at 6:00pm at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel, 204 S. Center Street, Flora, IN 46929. Pastor Guy Studebaker will officiate. Carroll County Honor guard will have military rites following service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora.
