Gerald Eugene Clingenpeel, 87, of Flora, entered heaven Monday, October 28, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Delphi. Gerald was born to the late John and Cletus Wilson Clingenpeel in Flora on July 29, 1937. He was a graduate of Flora High School and Ball State University. Gerald taught fifth and sixth grades at Richmond, Centerville and Northwestern. After years giving his best in the classroom, past students would keep in touch with Gerald until his death. Gerald enjoyed taking Young Hoosiers on field trips around the state of Indiana. Gerald was a man of strong faith and was active at First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sang with the church family. A few memories of Gerald’s life, his love for cats, gift of gab and he never met a stranger. After retirement, Gerald spent many hours volunteering at the Flora Senior Center, St. Elizabeth Healthcare and worked with the Elections Board. He was always available to drive a neighbor or friend to their doctor appointments. In Gerald’s younger years, he enjoyed being Santa Clause. Gerald was the youngest of seven siblings. He is survived by his sister: Diana Nevin a resident of Milner Healthcare in Rossville. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He is preceded by his parents, three brothers: Glen, Eddie and Wayne Clingenpeel. Two sisters: Mary Margaret Pearson and Bonnie Rieken.

Following Gerald’s wishes there will be no public service. Private burial will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery. The one thing Gerald wanted was for his friends to donate to the Kokomo Humane Society, 729 E. Hoffer St, Kokomo, IN 46902 in his memory.

Mr. Clingenpeel was my 4th grade teacher and my all-time favorite! I am a teacher today and remember him often when with my students. We stayed in touch through my school years; he came to my high school graduation and stopped to check on my mom after my dad died; as well as attending my husband’s southern gospel quartet once. Truly a light of God’s love in the world! Prayers and sympathy to the family.
