2025
David C. Gilbert, 64 of Flora, was called home on January 11, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer. Dad’s soul went to be with his Lord and Savior, while his body lie peacefully in the arms of his wife of 45 years.
Dad was born in Logansport, IN to Byron and Carolyn (Catron) Gilbert of Flora, Indiana, on May 2, 1960. He was the second of four children and the only boy in the family. He was a 1978 graduate of Carroll High School. After high school he began dating Norma Beck of Flora, Indiana, and they were married on November 2, 1979. Together they raised three children, Brant, Cole, and Hilary.
Dad retired from the West Lafayette Fire Department after 20 years of service. When not at the fire station, he worked for several different companies learning multiple skills. Even working all of these hours, he always made it a priority to attend the kids’ activities and sporting events. Dad always wanted to be a farmer, and his dream came true thanks to hard work, generosity, and family support. He loved being outside working on the farm and caring for the livestock.
The only other things that meant more to him were his faith and his family. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His passion for his church family and for the young people in the community was tangible. Dad’s hugs and his ornery nature will be missed by so many.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and in-laws Norm and Jane Beck. He is survived by his wife Norma; three children, Brant (Brandy) Gilbert, Cole (Kayley) Gilbert, and Hilary (Clay) Hanna. Seven beautiful grandchildren, Haven, Quincy, Ella, Grissom, Silas, Max, and Baker as well as three sisters Melinda K. Gilbert, Nancy S. Cangany and Tina L. Siefert.
Family and friends are welcome to call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday January 16th at Crossroads Community Christian Church, 3570 E. 200 S., Bringhurst, IN 46913. A memorial service will begin at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Crossroads Community Christian Church- Mission Fund which supports Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch and Sean & Sarah Smith/Czech Republic Mission. Envelopes will be available at the church, or you can donate online via the links below.
