2024
Charles “Lee” Simpson, 74, of Flora, went home to be with his Lord Savior Thursday, September 12, 2024, at his home with his family around his bed in prayer. Lee was born in Frankfort, IN June 2, 1950 to the late Charles E. and Viola M. Barlow Simpson. Lee was a 21-year Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. While on military leave, he came to Flora and married his love, Joyce King October 25, 1975. Lee worked at Sayco and Wabash National. While in the Army Lee was a helicopter mechanic. One of Lee’s passions was being involved with the National American Huey History Museum at Grissom Air Force Base. He attended Carrollton School, enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms and playing euchre with family and friends. Lee loved people, he never met a stranger and would help anyone if able. Joyce and their children remember Lee sitting on their front porch on neighborhood watch. His family would describe him as stubborn, but loving. His love was family, his country but most of all was his six grandchildren, he was their Papaw. Lee is survived by his wife Joyce. Two daughters: Candace Bennett of Covington and Lindsey Simpson of Hartford City. Son: Mike (Jessica) Simpson of Cutler. Siblings: Louise Davis, Floyd Simpson, Roy Simpson, Ron Simpson and Connie Burge. He was preceded in death by his brother Earl Simpson.
The Simpson Family invites friends to visit Tuesday from 4pm to 7pm at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel, 204 S Center Street, Flora, IN 46929. Celebration of Charles Lee Simpson’s Life will be 10:00 am Wednesday at the funeral home. Pastor Guy Studebaker will be officiating. Burial to follow with Military Honors at Maple Lawn Cemetery. Family asks that in lieu of flowers that all donations be given to the National American Huey History Museum, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

September 14, 2024 3:04 pm ·We were neighbors for several years, living in our look alike houses. We had many memories of shared garden produce, raspberries, homemade goodies, and we always enjoyed the mushroom finds from the king of mushroom hunting, Lee. Good neighbors, good people. We think of you all fondly. Our prayers go with you as you go through this difficult time of loss.
